DIVE EXCURSIONS

DIVE EXCURSIONS FOR CERTIFIED DIVERS

Are you into wreck diving, or maybe you want to swim side by side with turtles, mantas, or even dolphins? Here at Best Dives Bolifushi, there are numerous dive sites that you can explore. Right in front of the dive centre, there’s our very own small but interesting shipwreck, the Bolifushi wreck. Around the island, you’ll find stunning coral reef formations inhabited by diverse and colourful marine life. If you wish to explore further, there’s also a manta cleaning and feeding station to visit. For whale shark encounters, we can arrange a private trip to South Ari Atoll. Every day, we have a scheduled dive excursion for certified divers; private dive trips are also available on request.

Call the dive centre once you’re in the resort to book your dive in advance.

MUST VISIT

BOLIFUSHI SOUTH CORNER

Level: Advanced Open Water

Distance from Ozen Reserve Bolifushi: 10 minutes by dhoni

This is a fascinating dive site to explore. The strong current flowing through the narrow channel attracts all kinds of tropical reef fish and large pelagics. You’ll also find schools of snapper, hosts of colourful Fusiliers, tuna, eagle rays, stingrays, reef sharks, and even nurse sharks. The dive site is between 5 and 20 metres, with the majority of the action occurring between 5 and 10 metres. More experienced divers (current-permitting) can make it across the channel to explore outcrops of the reef at 5 to 10 metres, while newer divers can comfortably drift along the main reef.

EMBOODHOO CANYON

Level: Open Water

Distance from Ozen Reserve Bolifushi: 30 minutes by dhoni

This is one of the most popular and exciting dive sites in the Maldives due to the abundance of aquatic life and healthy corals. The canyon was created when a large chunk of reef broke off and created a narrow passage between the broken block and the main reef, Emboodhoo Faru. A series of large overhangs at various levels are adorned with colourful hard and soft coral and fans. Schools of tropical reef fish, tuna, reef sharks, and moray eels can be discovered lurking in the canyon, while turtles can often be seen feeding in the shallow reef areas above. The point where the broken chunk of reef meets the main reef is at about 20 metres, and the remains of a giant clam stretching to 1 metre in length can be seen.

VAADHOO CAVES

Level: Open Water

Distance from Ozen Reserve Bolifushi: 30 minutes by dhoni

At the northwest corner of Vadhoo Faru you’ll find the Vadhoo Caves. Feathery soft corals, brightly coloured hard corals, and delicate sea fans decorate the walls and surrounding area of Vadhoo Caves. Large gorgonian and whip corals are amongst the incredible species to be admired there. Small and expansive overhangs and caves stretch along the north side of the site at various depths. It’s also a superb spot to watch sharks and other large species such as tuna and trevally when the current is medium to strong. This dive site can be tricky in a strong current, so it’s best for intermediate and experienced divers.
